On May 17, HRSA will air for the first time a live Webcast
of a roundtable on the latest HRSA-supported maternal and child
health research findings.
The broadcast, set for 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. EDT, will examine
results from a study on low birth weight and mortality among
two groups of Puerto Rican infants -- those living in the
United States and those in Puerto Rico. The effect of a mother's
migration from Puerto Rico to the United States on an infant's
death also will be explored.
Nancy S. Landale, Ph.D., professor, and R. S. Oropesa, Ph.D.,
associate professor at Pennsylvania State University's Department
of Sociology, will discuss their findings from surveys and
interviews with 2,763 mothers in Puerto Rico, Connecticut,
Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York City and Pennsylvania.
Patricia O’Campo, Ph.D., associate professor at the Johns
Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health, and
Pierre Buekens, M.D., Ph.D., director of the University of
North Carolina's Department of Maternal and Child Health,
will react to findings. M. Ann Drum, D.D.S., M.P.H., of HRSA's
Maternal and Child Health Bureau will moderate the discussion,
which originates from the Parklawn Building in Rockville,
Md.
Individuals who want to participate in the online broadcast
should register at http://www.ncemch.org/research/roundtable.html
or by clicking the Research Roundtable link at http://mchb.hrsa.gov.
The roundtable is part of a series of lunchtime conferences
highlighting findings from selected research studies supported
by MCHB's Research Program. Prior to this Webcast, individuals
could only participate in-person or by telephone.
