New Pocket Guide Helps Clinicians Care for HIV/AIDS Patients

A new HRSA-supported pocket guide offers physicians easy access to clinical information on the care and treatment of individuals with HIV/AIDS.

The Pocket Guide to HIV/AIDS Treatment is color-coded and made of durable 6.75 by 4.75 inch cards joined with a ring clip for quick reference.  It features tables on antiretroviral drug therapies and information on drug form, dosage, toxicity and interactions.  Regimens are available for treating pregnant women and individuals co-infected with HIV and tuberculosis or a sexually transmitted disease.  The tables follow U.S. Department of Health and Human Services guidelines.

The guide is a product of the AIDS Education and Training Centers’ National Resource Center (NRC), which is supported by HRSA's HIV/AIDS Bureau.

The Pocket Guide is an information resource and providers are encouraged to use this tool in conjunction with drug manufacturers' package inserts.  Updates on the guide can be found on NRC's Web site at www.aids-ed.org.

For a hard copy of the guide, visit the HRSA Information Center at http://www.ask.hrsa.gov or call 1-888-Ask-HRSA.  It can also be downloaded and printed from the Web at http://www.aids-ed.org/e_nrc.html#pocketguide.
