Abstract:

This policy brief analyzes implications of major reforms considered by the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare created by the Balanced Budget Act. It discusses the premium support model, under which many responsibilities currently assumed by the Federal Government would be assumed by private health insurers, adding a drug benefit component to Medicare, changing Medicare subsidies for graduate medical education, and raising the age for Medicare eligibility. The brief includes references.
