U. S. Marshals Service, Eastern
District of Oklahoma, Announces the Arrest of Vance Wade Moore |
|
John Loyd, U S Marshal for the Eastern
District of Oklahoma announces that Vance Wade Moore, a registered
sex offender, is in U.S. Marshal custody today following the
extensive manhunt of this armed fugitive. Yesterday afternoon, U.S.
Marshals with the assistance of Cherokee County Sheriffs Office and
the Oklahoma Highway Patrol attempted to execute an arrest warrant
for Moore in Gideon, Oklahoma.
U.S. Marshals and Cherokee County Sheriffs Deputies approached the
residence and Moore fled armed with a semi-automatic handgun. Moore
ran down a steep bluff and into the woods.
A 23 hour search was then conducted involving the use of an Oklahoma
Highway Patrol aircraft, the Oklahoma Highway patrol and Cherokee
County Sheriffs Office.
The investigation continued throughout the entire night. A member of
our search team spotted Moore on foot just west of his residence on
HWY 82. Once Moore was located his position was surrounded by
several teams. Moore was taken into custody at 2:10 p.m. today.
Moore is set for an arraignment today at the Federal Courthouse in
Muskogee, Oklahoma.
John Loyd, U S Marshal for the Eastern District of Oklahoma stated,
“The U.S. Marshals have a long history of working closely with local
law enforcement agencies, this is just another example of what can
be accomplished when we do. Thanks to Cherokee County Sheriffs
Office and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. ”
U.S. Marshals received the warrant for Moore’s arrest from Project
Safe Neighborhood (PSN) Investigator’s coordinated through the U.S.
Attorney’s Office. This warrant was for Felon in Possession of a
Firearm.
Annually, investigations carried out by the U S Marshals result in
the apprehension of approximately 34,000 federal fugitives. More
federal fugitives are arrested by the Marshals than all other
federal agencies combined.
