Escaped Federal Prisoner Extradited
back to the United States
El
Paso - Today, United States Marshal for the Western District of
Texas, LaFayette Collins, announces the return of Ismael Alfredo
Terrazas-Torres from the Republic of Mexico.
On December 13, 1989, Terrazas escaped from Federal Correctional
Institution La Tuna in El Paso, after being committed to the custody
of the Attorney General for a period of 151 months. Terrazas was
originally convicted and sentenced for Possession with Intent to
Distribute Cocaine. Terrazas, along with two other federal
prisoners, escaped from FCI La Tuna by cutting a hole through the
two perimeter fences.
In 2005, acting on information developed by the Lone Star Fugitive
Task Force, agents with the Agencia Federal de Investigaciones (AFI)
, located Terrazas and arrested him based on an official request for
his extradition. After proceedings in Mexico, Terrazas was ordered
to be extradited back to the United States by the Mexican
Government. Under escort of Deputy United States Marshals, Terrazas
was flown to Houston pending transfer to the Bureau of Prisons.
United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas LaFayette
Collins said, “Fugitives only have two choices when being pursued by
the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force; either peacefully surrender to
law enforcement authorities or face a life of constant fear, knowing
no matter where you hide or how far you run, in the end, you face
justice.” |
