U.S. MARSHALS TASK FORCE ARREST TWO PERSONS
SUSPECTED OF VIOLENT CRIMES WITHIN NINE HOURS
Acting U.S. Marshal
Roxanna Irwin announced the apprehension of two suspected violent
criminals yesterday.
In the first incident, U.S. Marshals Crescent Star Fugitive Task
Force officers arrested Eustaquio Diaz near the corner of Kent and
Glendale Streets in Metairie. Diaz was wanted by the Linn County
Sheriff’s office, Iowa, for the sexual assault of an eight year old
child. U.S. Marshals in Iowa developed information that Diaz may be
in the New Orleans area working in construction and contacted the
local Task Force for assistance. Investigators found Diaz working as
a day laborer near the area listed above and arrested him at a job
site without incident.
In the second incident, Task Force officers arrested Keyatta Corey
Mays, wanted by the Tuscaloosa Police Department for murder. Alabama
police officials allege that Mays was involved in a fight on August
11, 2007. He returned later that day to the scene of the altercation
and fatally shot Brandon Rainey, who he mistakenly identified as
being one of the subjects that had assaulted him. Mays was arrested
at the corner of Terry Parkway and the Westbank Expressway at
approximately 9:00 p.m. A concerned citizen identified Mays and
called authorities who made the arrest without incident.
The U.S. Marshals sponsored Crescent Star Fugitive Task Force
includes law enforcement officers from the New Orleans Police
Department, Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff’s Office, St. Charles
Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana Probation and Parole, St. Bernard
Parish Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Border Patrol,
Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Bogalusa Police Department,
Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Social
Security Office of the Inspector General. Other area law enforcement
agencies also assist CSFTF in fugitive investigations on a case by
case basis. |
