GA - On June 19, 2007, investigators from the U.S. Marshals
Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Tremaie
Pyatt, 24. Pyatt was wanted by the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office
for the shooting death of an off duty deputy sheriff. Pyatt also had
outstanding warrants for aggravated assault, kidnapping and
terroristic threats.
On June 17, 2007 during the early Sunday morning hours Deputy
Meredith Rhodes, 27, a four year veteran of the Muscogee County
Sheriff’s Office, was shot and killed in Columbus, GA.
Following the shooting the Columbus Police Department and the United
States Marshals Service developed information that led them to
believe that the suspect Tremaie Pyatt had fled to Atlanta, GA
On the afternoon of June 19, 2007, investigators from the United
States Marshals Service’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force
developed information that Pyatt may be in the area around Cleveland
Ave. in Atlanta, GA. Investigators immediately set up multiple
surveillances in the area.
After several hours of surveillance investigators were able to
determine that Pyatt was in an apartment complex off of Cleveland
Circle SW, Atlanta, GA. A short time after arrival investigators
were able to identify a probable apartment for Pyatt.
At approximately 9:30pm, investigators approached the target
apartment building where investigators were forced to enter the
residence and arrest Pyatt after a brief struggle.
Pyatt has a criminal history that includes convictions for robbery,
battery, and obstruction of police.
The Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF) is a team
comprised of law enforcement officers from the United States
Marshal, as well as, 27 other local, state and federal agencies. The
task force’s objective is to seek out and arrest the regions most
violent offenders. Since the inception of the task force in
September of 2003, the SERFTF has closed over 10,300 felony
warrants. Annually, more fugitives are arrested by U.S. Marshals
than all other federal agencies combined.
