On June 17, 2007 during the early Sunday morning hours Deputy Meredith Rhodes, 27, a four year veteran of the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, was shot and killed in Columbus, GA.

Following the shooting the Columbus Police Department and the United States Marshals Service developed information that led them to believe that the suspect Tremaie Pyatt had fled to Atlanta, GA

On the afternoon of June 19, 2007, investigators from the United States Marshals Service’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force developed information that Pyatt may be in the area around Cleveland Ave. in Atlanta, GA. Investigators immediately set up multiple surveillances in the area.

After several hours of surveillance investigators were able to determine that Pyatt was in an apartment complex off of Cleveland Circle SW, Atlanta, GA. A short time after arrival investigators were able to identify a probable apartment for Pyatt.

At approximately 9:30pm, investigators approached the target apartment building where investigators were forced to enter the residence and arrest Pyatt after a brief struggle.

Pyatt has a criminal history that includes convictions for robbery, battery, and obstruction of police.
