Bank
Robber Hit by Car on I-17 Attempting to Flee U.S. Marshals
Phoenix, AZ – A California man
wanted on multiple bank robberies in the Los Angeles area was hit by
a car on I-17 while attempting to evade U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task
Force members last night. Steven Dennis, 36, a California Parolee at
Large, has outstanding warrants in San Bernardino for several bank
robberies. He has an extensive criminal history that includes
Burglary, Narcotics, Possession of Explosives, and Fleeing from
Police.
Task Force members from the Phoenix and Los Angeles Marshals office
tracked Dennis to the Motel 6 located at I-17 and Indian School. As
law enforcement officers attempted to arrest Dennis, he fled on foot
crossing the south bound lanes of I-17. Dennis was struck by a car
in the north bound HOV lane of I-17 at approximately 8:00 pm last
night.
Dennis was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was treated for a
broken hip and other various injuries. He is expected to survive.
During the investigation into Dennis’ whereabouts, several
associates of the fugitive stated Dennis made comments that he would
not be taken alive by police.
United States Marshal David Gonzales praised the work of deputies
and law enforcement officers adding, “I’m glad no law enforcement
officers or motorists were injured because of Dennis’ careless and
reckless decision to cross I-17.”
