Overview

NOAA’s National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS conduct and support a variety of research projects concerning coastal, ocean, and Great Lakes issues. NCCOS focuses its research on four ecosystems: coral reefs; estuaries, including the National Estuarine Research Reserves; National Marine Sanctuaries; and coastal ocean regions. NCCOS activities focus on five key ecosystem stressors: climate change, extreme natural events, pollution, invasive species, and land and resource use. Understanding how these stressors affect ecosystems is vital for assessing the impacts on coastal communities and effectively managing our Nation's ocean and coastal resources.

The NCCOS Project Explorer (NPE) is the search mechanism for retrieving information on the scientific research projects conducted or sponsored by NCCOS. Searches can be performed by geographic location, ecosystem, or stressor. An advanced search module is available for more detailed searches, including by keyword.
