It is not true that serologic screening will identify
all donors/blood units infected with malaria parasites. Serologic
tests assess only a donor’s past experience with malaria,
not the current presence of malaria parasites. In addition,
as is the case with most diagnostic tests, malaria serologic
tests are not 100% sensitive and specific.
