It is not true that insecticide treated nets (ITNs)
have proven very popular in Africa and
are rapidly reaching the desired coverage. In many
areas, coverage remains low because of lack of promotion,
cultural barriers, and cost considerations. (In many places
in Africa , US$ 5 is not a trivial amount.) Ministries of
Health and their partners are trying to increase the acceptance
of ITNs though various strategies, including social marketing
and distribution of ITNs at no-cost to target groups such
as young children and pregnant women.
