Maps are needed to support the purchase and rating of flood insurance, enable wise community-based floodplain management, and increase the Nation’s flood hazard awareness. Through Flood Map Modernization, FEMA provides updated maps and data while transforming the paper inventory to a computer-based digital inventory, which includes the Nation’s Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRMs).
