Mission

BOTUSA LogoBOTUSA is a partnership of the Government of Botswana and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that provides technical assistance, consultation, funding, and conducts research with the Botswana government and other local and international partners for prevention, treatment, care and support, and surveillance of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and related conditions.

Values

A hard-working team committed to high-quality programs and research, with open communication and accountability in a respectful and supportive environment.

Vision

A healthier Botswana through the elimination of HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.

Since 1995, BOTUSA has played an important role in extending the reach of Botswana's national TB response, with HIV/AIDS becoming a strong focus of the program in 2000. BOTUSA was initially established as a partnership with the Ministry of Health in order to strengthen TB control through public health research. This partnership with the Government of Botswana has grown to include HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment programs, including TB research and HIV prevention research. Through this partnership, BOTUSA provides training, technical assistance, and the infusion of essential resources. It conducts clinical and operations research, promotes innovation and evidence-based best practices, and supports targeted evaluation and program monitoring.

BOTUSA also collaborates with Government to identify gaps in services and establish model programs to fill these gaps. Support from BOTUSA also strengthens underlying health infrastructure and systems, including commodities procurement systems and human resources.

Through the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), BOTUSA collaborates with the Botswana Government, multilateral institutions, non-government organizations and the private sector to help the country maximize the quality, coverage and impact of its own national HIV/AIDS response.
