Phoenix, AZ -- This is the last week for eligible residents who sustained losses or damage as a result of the Oct. 21 to Nov. 8 severe storms and flooding to visit FEMA/State Local Assistance Centers in Salome or Wickenburg, federal and state disaster recovery officials announced today. Thereafter, only representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will remain at the Wickenburg location to provide services in a newly designated SBA Workshop. All disaster assistance services will be closed in Salome.
Previous to the announced closures, the centers in Wickenburg and Salome had experienced markedly reduced visits by disaster victims. However, the Local Assistance Center in Wenden, which operates Mondays through Fridays only, remains busy and will stay open with all services, including those offered by SBA, until further notice.
"But even after a center closes, FEMA will be as close as a telephone call away," Federal Coordinating Officer David Fukutomi said. "People can call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-525-0321 to find out more about FEMA assistance programs and the status of their applications."
"The Local Assistance Center in Wickenburg will be operating through 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 8. The center in Salome will operate through 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9," State Coordinating Officer Michael P. Austin, with Arizona Division of Emergency Management, said.
Centers are located at 38170 Apache Street, Salome; 160 N. Valentine, Wickenburg; 71057 Elm St. #5, Wenden. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Disaster victims who have not yet registered for state and federal assistance may still do so by calling toll-free 1-800-462-9029. Those who are hearing- or speech-impaired can call TTY 1-800-462-7585.
Disaster assistance programs include housing assistance, grants for serious needs and necessary expenses not covered by insurance or other programs, and low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration for storm and flood damaged residential or business property.
