Last Chance to Meet With FEMA Mitigation Experts at Westchester County Home Supply Store

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Westchester County residents affected by the April nor'easter will have their last chance June 11 to meet one-on-one with mitigation experts who can provide professional advice on how to lessen future damages from flooding.

The State Emergency Management Office (SEMO) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in partnership with local home supply stores, offer outreach teams to assist people with mitigation and disaster assistance information. The experts will be at the Home Depot at 150 Midland Avenue in Port Chester from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through June 11.

The experts are available to explain techniques that can lessen damage to homes, businesses and property from future flooding. How-to information for retrofitting buildings and elevating utilities will be available. Specialists also will provide flood safety clean-up tips to help prevent health problems that may be caused by mold or mildew, which can grow rapidly, and may cause or aggravate asthma or respiratory problems in adults and children.

Home and business owners should be aware that in addition to causing structural damage, mold spores can grow in a short period, which may cause or aggravate asthma or respiratory problems in adults and children.
