Kansas City, MO -- The last day to register for federal disaster assistance is Monday, April 8, 2002. Residents of Missouri who suffered damage from the January ice storm must register before that day for federal disaster assistance programs. Those who have suffered damages and don't register during the open application period may not be eligible for programs currently available.
Anyone who has not yet registered should do so as soon as possible by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) toll-free registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). TTY service is available at 1-800-462-7585 for anyone who is hearing or speech impaired. Disaster assistance specialists are available to take calls between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CDT, Monday through Friday until further notice.
Homeowners, renters, farmers, agricultural producers, and business owners in designated counties who sustained damage from the ice storm may apply for federal assistance.
Even if you were insured, you are encouraged to apply for disaster assistance. Because insurance claims may take longer to settle than the 60 day FEMA registration period, people who suffered damage or incurred losses from the ice storm should still register during the open application period.
