BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Disaster Recovery Center in Reggio, St. Bernard Parish, will close at the end of the business day on Saturday, October 2, but help is still available. Individuals can check on their applications, or register for disaster assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY 1-800-462-7585 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily.
The Disaster recovering Center in Buras at 35619 Highway 11, Plaquemines Parish, will remain open. Beginning Monday, October 4, new hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Individuals who suffered loss or damage from Hurricane Ivan can meet with representatives from FEMA’s Individual Assistance program, the U.S. Small Business Administration, Louisiana Departments of Social Services, Health and Hospital, the Department of Labor (disaster unemployment assistance).
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA’s continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
