Brookhaven Recovery Center To Close Friday But Aid Is Still Available

Jackson, MS -- Its mission completed, the federal/state Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Brookhaven, which has been providing information on disaster assistance to property owners who suffered losses during the April 6th through 14th severe storms, tornadoes and flooding, will close at 6:00 p.m., Friday, May 16. The same information provided by the DRC will continue to be available from the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The speech or hearing impaired should call 1-800-462-7585.

The U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA), however, will remain at that location beginning Monday, May 19 through Thursday, May 22, to assist people with completing their SBA loan applications. The hours of operation will be 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The number of visitors to the Brookhaven center located at the Families First Resource Center, 511 North Church Street, has dropped in recent days indicating that disaster applicants have received all the information they need. The center provided answers to questions about assistance programs as well as information on the status of individual applications for assistance.

The DRCs located in Jackson and Meridian will remain open until further notice. A special FEMA mobile DRC also will be operational as needed.
