BEVERLY, Mass. – Disaster assistance information is as near as the telephone for residents of Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Worcester Counties who registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) following last month’s flooding in those areas.
FEMA uses the same toll-free phone number, 1-800-621 FEMA (3362), for registration and to provide a Helpline option. The TTY Registration/Helpline number for those with speech or hearing impairment is 1-800-462-7585.
By choosing the Helpline option, registered applicants may obtain answers to questions about disaster programs, track the status of their aid request, change inspection appointments or update their telephone or address contact information.
The Helpline is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, but will be closed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
