X-ray Crystallographic Facility

Structure & Function Research Group

The NIEHS X-ray Crystallographic Facility is located on the third floor of the F module in Building 101. For crystallization a coldroom shared by NIEHS investigators houses a TTP Mosquito robot for sub-microliter crystallization trials in 96-well formats as well as ample work space and storage for crystallization experiments. For data collection this facility features a Rigaku 007HFmicromax X-ray generator with a Saturn92 CCD detector mounted on an AFC11 partial 4 circle goniometer equipped with VariMaxHF mirrors mounted on the left port. The right port is equipped with a RAXISIV detector with VariMaxHR mirrors. Samples on both ports are cryo-cooled with nitrogen cooled to -180 °C by X-stream systems. This service is available to all Institute scientists without cost. Lars Pedersen, Ph.D., heads the X-ray Crystallographic Facility.

The following equipment and supplies are available for use by NIEHS scientists in conducting their research. The equipment and supply capabilities are listed for easy reference.

Figure 4: At NIEHS screening of crystallographic conditions is carried out using a Mosquito robot.  This robot is capable of dispensing sub µl drops (50nl-400nl) in 96 well format for crystallization trials
