Upton Public Schedule for Tuesday, November 20th
Upton to present Purple Heart to Kalamazoo WWII veteran – Rep. will also view energy saving initiatives at Western Michigan University

Upton tour to highlight energy efficiency & conservation at WMU

12:55pm   Brief presentation on WMU’s building energy conservation and power production efficiencies

Tour College of Business building for recent energy conservation initiatives

Photo Op: Upton will assist facility staff replace several lights with compact fluorescent lamps. This is part of WMU's initiative to rid the campus of incandescent lamps. With over 100,000 lamps on campus, WMU has about 2,500 incandescent lamps left to replace in the office and classroom buildings.



1:20pm    Review efficiencies in power production at WMU’s Robert M. Beam Power Plant.
1:45pm   Review energy distribution and consumption in the control center at WMU’s Physical Plant Control Center.

Photo Op: Upton and President Dunn will implement the WMU Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday energy reduction set-back computer program. The Control Center will reach out to over 100 buildings and over 3000 thermostats to adjust the heating or energy consumption in 5 million SF of building space. The estimated savings during the holiday periods is12 million pounds of steam (46% reduction), 620,000 KWH (21% reduction), and $285,000 cost avoidance in energy.
