Mentoring Programs for Junior Faculty

Just as you do not stop learning after college and graduate school, you also do not stop needing guidance and support. In fact, the years as a junior faculty member, young doctor, or new employee may be the most uncertain, stressful and worrisome years of your life. Finding a mentor during this turbulent time will have a huge positive effect -- helping you to navigate your way in a new position, and increasing your chance of receiving tenure or a promotion. Many hospitals and universities are beginning faculty-mentoring programs. If you are a senior member of the faculty or a brand new employee, encourage your institution to join the others.
