COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of Missouri Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) officials continue response and recovery efforts for those affected by the recent severe storms, tornadoes and flooding of March 11-13, 2006 and March 30- April 3, 2006.

To date, $1,165,732 has been disbursed for Housing Assistance which may include lodging expense reimbursement, repair assistance and temporary rental assistance.

$271,997 has been disbursed for Other Needs Assistance which may include grants for disaster related medical. dental and funeral expenses, moving and storage expenses and other expenses related to serious needs.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved low-interest disaster loans totaling more than $2.5 million for homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes.

A total of 2,960 Missourians have applied for disaster assistance under both of President Bush's Missouri disaster declarations dated March 16, 2006 and April 5, 2006.

More than 1,258 individuals have visited Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) opened in the cities of Paris, Caruthersville, Sedalia, Nixa, Perryville, Unionville, Monroe City, Hermitage, Neosho, El Dorado Springs and Grovespring. DRCs are designed to provide applicants with an opportunity to discuss their needs with personnel from state, federal and voluntary organizations that can answer questions and provide recovery information about various programs available to individuals and business owners.

Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pemiscot is the only center that will remain open on Sundays, except for Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006.

RECOVERY CENTERS IN SEDALIA (Pettis County) and GROVESPRING (Wright County) WILL BE CLOSED ON SUNDAYS.

Before coming to a Disaster Recovery Center, residents and business owners in all Missouri declared counties are encouraged to apply immediately by calling the toll-free number 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). For people who are speech or hearing-impaired, the TTY number is 1-800-462-7585. Telephone lines are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CDT, seven days a week. People may also apply online using the Online Individual Assistance Center.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
