COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of Missouri Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) officials continue response and recovery efforts for those affected by the recent severe storms, tornadoes and flooding of March 11-13, 2006.

To date, $773,171 has been disbursed for Housing Assistance which may include lodging expense reimbursement, repair assistance and temporary rental assistance.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved low-interest disaster loans totaling almost $1.2 million for homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes.

A total of 1,684 Missourians have applied for disaster assistance under President Bush's disaster declaration of March 16, 2006.

More than 571 individuals have visited the nine Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) opened in the cities of Paris, Sedalia, Nixa, Perryville, Unionville, Monroe City, Hermitage, Neosho and El Dorado Springs. DRCs are designed to provide applicants with an opportunity to discuss their needs with personnel from state, federal and voluntary organizations that can answer questions and provide recovery information about various programs available to individuals and business owners.

Locations of the DRCs:

Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 a.m.; Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 6 p.m. RECOVERY CENTERS IN SEDALIA (Pettis County), UNIONVILLE (Putnam County) AND MONROE CITY (Monroe County) WILL BE CLOSED ON SUNDAYS.

Before coming to a Disaster Recovery Center, residents and business owners in all Missouri declared counties are encouraged to apply immediately by calling the toll-free number 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). For people who are speech or hearing-impaired, the TTY number is 1-800-462-7585. Telephone lines are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST, seven days a week. People may also apply online at www.fema.gov.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
