KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grants and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loans total more than $2.41 million for individuals, households and businesses affected by the severe storms and flooding in Missouri May 5-18.

Below is a recap of disaster activities as of the close of business on Thursday, July 19, 2007:

SBA is the federal government's primary source of money for the long-term rebuilding of disaster-damaged private property. SBA helps homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private non-profit organizations fund repairs or rebuilding efforts, and cover the cost of replacing lost or disaster-damaged personal property. These disaster loans cover uninsured and uncompensated losses and do not duplicate benefits of other agencies or organizations. For information about SBA disaster assistance, call the Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
