Parsons, KS -- The Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Parsons will convert to a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) workshop on Tuesday, May 30th. The center is located in the City Municipal Building (Basement) at 112 South 17th Street.

While the DRC will be closed for the holiday weekend, it will remain open until 6 p.m. on Friday, May 26th. On Tuesday May 30th, the DRC will convert to an SBA workshop. The workshop will be open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until further notice.

SBA workshops provide an opportunity for storm victims to discuss their loan applications directly with an SBA representative. Completing the application does not obligate the applicant to an SBA loan, but it is an essential step in determining if they are eligible for other types of assistance.

The DRC has been a resource for disaster victims who were affected by the severe storms and tornadoes of April 19th and 20th. It provides access to specialists on assistance programs, mitigation techniques and the SBA loan program. The DRC has provided assistance and information to more than 375 Kansans who were affected by the disaster.

Federal Coordinating Officer Louis Botta said, "Even after the transition to an SBA focus, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be as close as your telephone." Individuals may call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-525-0321 or, for the hearing- or speech-impaired 1-800-462-7585.

Residents and business owners in Crawford, Labette and Neosho counties who have tornado damage should register for disaster assistance by calling the FEMA toll-free registration number 1-800-462-9029 (TTY 1-800-462-7585).

The FEMA toll-free numbers are operational Monday through Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
