JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Missourians in the counties of Andrew, Cass, Clark, Gentry, Greene, Holt, Johnson, Lewis, Lincoln, Linn, Livingston, Marion, Nodaway, Pike, Ralls, St. Charles, Stone, Taney, Vernon, and Webster who were affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred between June 1 July 18 have less than one month to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for disaster assistance.

Recovery officials urge residents and business owners with disaster-related damage in the disaster-designated areas to call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) to register or TTY 1-800-462-7585. Lines are open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The deadline to apply for assistance is August 27, 2008.

"Registration keeps open the possibility of a wide range of assistance," said Michael Karl, the FEMA official in charge of federal recovery operations. "If your insurance coverage comes up short, you need to be registered for us to help."

There is no need to delay registering because you’re waiting for an insurance settlement. Registration does not obligate anyone to accept aid if, for any reason, they decide against it.

FEMA coordinates the federal government’s role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
