Now 78 Iowa Counties Designated in Federal Disaster

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Six additional counties are now eligible for Individual Assistance and ten additional counties are now eligible for Public Assistance to repair infrastructure, the Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division (HSEMD) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today. Joint federal and state disaster assessments are on-going throughout the state.

Dallas, Davis, Iowa, Lucas, Mitchell and Worth counties have been added to the May 27 federal major disaster declaration providing Individual Assistance to homeowners, renters and business owners affected by the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding beginning on May 25 and continuing. Individual Assistance has now been approved for 54 Iowa counties.

Iowans can register by calling FEMA's toll-free registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY
1-800-462-7585 for those with speech or hearing impairments. The phone lines are open 24 hours, seven days a week.  Residents can also register by going online anytime at www.fema.gov.

In addition, state and local governments and certain non-profit organizations in Davis, Des Moines, Henry, Lee, Lyon, Muscatine, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Pottawattamie and Van Buren counties are now eligible to apply for federal Public Assistance funds to pay 75 percent of the approved cost of debris removal, emergency services related to the disaster and repairing or replacing damaged public facilities, such as roads, buildings and utilities. A series of applicant briefings to explain the application process will be held for state and local officials.

The 54 counties approved for Individual Assistance include: Adams, Allamakee, Benton, Black Hawk, Boone, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Cedar, Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw, Clayton, Crawford, Dallas, Davis, Delaware, Des Moines, Fayette, Floyd, Franklin, Fremont, Hamilton, Hancock, Hardin, Harrison, Iowa, Jasper, Johnson, Jones, Kossuth, Lee, Linn, Louisa, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Mills, Mitchell, Monona, Muscatine, Page, Polk, Scott, Story, Tama, Union, Wapello, Warren, Webster, Winneshiek, Worth and Wright.

The 77 counties now approved for Public Assistance are: Adair, Adams, Allamakee, Benton, Black Hawk, Boone, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Carroll, Cass, Cedar, Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw, Clayton, Clinton, Crawford, Dallas, Davis, Decatur, Delaware, Des Moines, Dubuque, Fayette, Floyd, Franklin, Fremont, Greene, Grundy, Guthrie, Hamilton, Hancock, Hardin, Harrison, Henry, Howard, Humboldt, Iowa, Jackson, Jasper, Johnson, Jones, Keokuk, Kossuth, Lee, Linn, Louisa, Lyon, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Mills, Mitchell, Monona, Montgomery, Muscatine, Page, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Polk, Pottawattamie, Poweshiek, Ringgold, Scott, Story, Tama, Taylor, Union, Van Buren, Wapello, Warren, Washington, Webster, Winneshiek, Worth and Wright. Joint federal and state disaster assessments throughout the state are on-going. (Lucas County is eligible for federal Individual Assistance only, which brings the total number of designated counties to 78.)
