DES MOINES, Iowa -- A Mobile Disaster Recovery Center (MDRC) has re-opened at the New Hartford Fire Station, 318 Packwaukee St., New Hartford. The Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division (HSEMD) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said a DRC provides face-to-face assistance to those who suffered damage in the recent severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding that began May 25 and continues.
FEMA disaster assistance specialists will be available to answer questions. The U.S. Small Business Administration and other state, federal and non-profit organizations will have information at the MDRC as well.
There are now five DRCs in operation from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week:
Black Hawk County
- Parking lot at 2300 Indiana St., on the University of Northern Iowa campus, behind the American Red Cross Shelter at 2501 Minnesota St., Cedar Falls, IA 50613

Buchanan Counnty

If possible, persons should register with FEMA prior to visiting a DRC, but phones are available if residents have not pre-registered. Register by calling FEMA's toll-free registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) (TTY 1-800-462-7585) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, or go online anytime at www.fema.gov. Those who have previously registered but have suffered additional damage do not have to re-register. They can report additional damage on the toll-free registration line or online at the FEMA website.
When registering, applicants should provide current contact information, insurance information, a brief description of damage sustained as well as the specific location of damaged property.
FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
