DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division (HSEMD) announced the opening of a fourth federal-state Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Waterloo, in Black Hawk County, beginning Thursday, June 5, 2008.

The DRC is located at the Black Hawk County Health Department, Pine Crest Bldg - Room 201, 1407 Independence Ave, Waterloo, IA and is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week until further notice.

Residents in Black Hawk, Buchanan and Butler counties who were affected by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding beginning May 25, and continuing, are encouraged to visit one of the centers available to them. Other DRCs are open seven days a week in Parkersburg at the Memorial Veterans Building, in New Hartford at the fire station and in Aurora at the Aurora Comet Center.

Representatives from state, federal and voluntary agencies will be available to answer questions and provide recovery information about various assistance programs for individuals and business owners. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is there to issue and accept disaster loan applications from homeowners, renters, businesses and private non profits, as well as answer any questions regarding the SBA low interest disaster loans program.

If possible, visitors should register with FEMA prior to visiting the DRC, but phones are available if residents have not pre-registered. When registering, applicants will be asked to provide current contact information, insurance information, a brief description of damage sustained as well as the specific location of damaged property.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
