Disaster Recovery Center To Open In Shannon County

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A Disaster Recovery Center is opening Friday, April 18, in Shannon County, providing face-to-face assistance to those who suffered damage in the recent flooding.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the State Emergency Management Agency said the DRC will be open on Friday from 1 to 7 p.m. After that, the hours will be Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., closed Sundays. The location is:

Applicants should register with FEMA prior to visiting the DRC. Register by calling FEMA’s toll-free registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) (TTY 1-800-462-7585) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, or go online at www.fema.gov, 24 hours a day. Registrants should use the name as shown on their Social Security card when registering.

The Presidential disaster declaration of March 19 for storms beginning March 17 now includes all of the following counties declared for Individual Assistance: Bollinger, Butler, Calloway, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Christian, Franklin, Gasconade, Greene, Howard, Iron, Jasper, Jefferson, Laclede, Madison, Maries, McDonald, Newton, Oregon, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski, Reynolds, Ripley, Scott, Shannon, St. Francois, St. Louis, Stoddard, Stone, Taney, Texas, Washington, Wayne, and Webster.

Visitors to the DRCs will find information on FEMA and state disaster assistance programs; U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest disaster loans and how to complete the loan application; smart building techniques to reduce damage from future floods; and flood insurance.

FEMA coordinates the federal government’s role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
