CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Operating hours for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) toll-free registration line will change as of Monday, June 7, 1999. Beginning Monday, the registration number will be available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. It will still be closed on Sunday.

The toll-free registration line was established for residents and business owners in the 13 designated Iowa counties to apply for disaster assistance because of the severe storms, flooding and tornadoes in May. Renters, homeowners and business owners with storm damage may apply for assistance by calling FEMA's toll-free registration line at 1-800-462-9029. People with hearing or speech impairments may call TTY 1-800-462-7585.

To date, almost 2,300 applications have already been received. Everyone who had any losses or damage from the storm should call and register for assistance.

The registration line will continue to operate Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until further notice.
