Two Short-Term Disaster Recovery Centers To Open

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- State and federal officials will establish joint federal/state short-term Disaster Recovery Centers in Cerro Gordo and Mitchell counties on August 18. They will be located at:

Cerro Gordo County
Police Training Room
78 S. Georgia St.
Mason City
Osage
Mitchell County
City Hall (Downstairs)
Council Chambers (Old Library)
806 Main St.

The two centers will open to assist applicants on Wednesday, August 18, and remain through Friday, August 20. They will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.

The purpose of these centers is to provide assistance and information to Iowans who have experienced damages and losses from the severe storms and flooding that began July 2. Representatives of state and federal agencies will be present. The disaster assistance available includes temporary housing, individual and family grants, disaster unemployment assistance, low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration for homeowners, renters or business owners, and other aid programs.

If you have sustained damage to your home or business from the severe storms and flooding, you are encouraged to register for assistance using FEMA's toll-free number: 1-800-462-9029 before visiting the center. For those who are speech- or hearing-impaired the TTY number is 1-800-462-7585. Recovery specialists are available to take calls Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. -7 p.m., closed Sunday.
