CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- State and federal officials have announced the closing of the Disaster Recovery Center in Charles City and the opening of a U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) workshop. The Disaster Recovery Center located at the Cedar Mall Shopping Center, 128 Cedar Mall, Charles City, will convert to a SBA Workshop effective August 21, 1999.

SBA representatives will be available to help residents and business owners who are eligible for low-interest loans to help cover residential and business disaster losses not fully compensated by insurance.

The workshop will operate Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a. m. until 6:00 p.m. until further notice and will be closed on Sundays.

All residents and business owners, including farmers, who have sustained damages to their homes or personal property from the severe storms and flooding between July 2 and August 10, 1999 are encouraged to apply for disaster assistance. Apply by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) toll-free registration number at 1-800-462-9029. Those with hearing or speech impairments can register by calling 1-800-462-7585. The telephone numbers are operational from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. CDT, Monday through Saturday.
