Great Bend, KS -- The Disaster Recovery Center in Hoisington will be open on Sunday afternoon, May 13, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. to accommodate citizens of Hoisington and Barton County with questions about their applications, state and federal officials announced. The Disaster Recovery Center is located in the Hoisington City Library, 169 S. Walnut. Regular hours are Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Disaster Recovery Centers are designed to provide more detailed program information to those who have already applied for assistance under President Bush's April 27 disaster declaration and who may have further questions. Representatives of state, federal and voluntary agencies will be present, including loan officers from the U.S. Small Business Administration. The disaster programs available include temporary housing, individual and family grants, disaster unemployment assistance, and other aid programs. Please note, financial assistance is not directly provided from these centers.
Officials encourage anyone affected by the April 21 tornado and severe storms to apply by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency's toll-free registration number, 1-800-462-9029, (1-800-462-7585 for speech/hearing-impaired persons). Recovery specialists are available to take calls from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., CDT, seven days a week until further notice.
