Washington, Jan 6 -

Congressman Don Manzullo (R-Egan) was sworn in to a new 2-year term of office today, vowing to continue his ongoing efforts to strengthen our economy and put Americans back to work in 2009.

Manzullo, a leader in the battle to strengthen American manufacturing, will continue to serve on the House Financial Services Committee that has jurisdiction over our nation’s key economic issues and oversight of government bailout initiatives. Manzullo recently received major national media coverage during committee oversight hearings on the $700 billion Wall Street bailout and the rescue package for the Big 3 automakers.

Manzullo will also continue to serve on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where he is the lead Republican on the Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific and the Global Environment, and continually holds China’s feet to the fire to ensure the trade playing field is level for American manufacturers competing in the global marketplace.

Manzullo, who co-founded and co-chairs the House Manufacturing Caucus, will continue in the 111th Congress to represent more than 725,000 people who reside in the 16th Congressional District of Illinois. The district includes the counties of Boone, Winnebago, Stephenson, Jo Daviess, Ogle, Carroll, two-thirds of McHenry County, the top half of DeKalb County, and the top third of Whiteside County.

“The people of northern Illinois and throughout our great country are hurting in these difficult economic times,” Manzullo said. “I will continue this Congress to lead the mission to strengthen U.S. manufacturing, kick-start our economy and put Americans back to work. We can begin by giving Americans and employers tax incentives to buy vehicles to kick-start that sector of our economy and create new jobs for Americans.”
