Asian American/Pacific Islander Employment Program (AAPIEP)

The meeting was called to order by the Vice-Chair, Ms. Lucie Chen at 12:05 p.m.

Ms. Chen discussed the concerns about the release of the AAPIEC Web Site, she mentioned that since Dr. Bill Bunnag and Mr. Charly Wells (the two primary staff working on this web site) were not present at the meeting, we did not know what's happening with the delaying in releasing this web site. We will ask Mr. Wells at the next meeting.

Ms. Chen passed out to the Committee members a copy of the NIH's Asian American Pacific Islander Strategic Plan for FY2004 (OEODM's), and requested the group to review and provide their comments on the Strategic Plan at the next meeting.

Ms. Chen asked the committee to discuss our strategies and responses to Dr. Kington's visit in March of this year. Ms. Selena Lee suggested that we get additional hiring data from OEODM, and present to Dr. Kington with better documentation for our claims of glass ceiling situation that exist among Asians Americans at NIH in the management level.

Dr. Simon Liu mentioned that he will resend to the committee those graphs and pie charts he prepared earlier during his presentation, and see how we can improve them.

Dr. Hameed Khan invited AAPIEC members to join APAO to celebrate the Holiday Season at the APAO's Annual Holiday Party on December 5th at Wilson Hall. Everyone is invited to bring a dish or pay $10 to participate.

Ms. Chen mentioned that due to her health situation, she would not be able to serve as AAPIEC Chair position next term, and would like AAPIEC to elect another Chairperson for next term.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:10 p.m.
