and
Jumping Off Bridges — D.C. Area Premiere

American Film Institute (AFI) Silver Theatre and Cultural Center
Silver Spring, Maryland
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is deeply saddened by the tragic and sudden death of Wayne S. Fenton, M.D., on September 3. If you’ve attended Science in the Cinema in the past, you’ll remember that Dr. Fenton was one of our favorite and most noted guest lecturers on the subject of serious mental illness. On November 15, NIH’s Office of Science Education (OSE) and National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), in partnership with the Mental Health Association of Montgomery County and the AFI Silver Theatre, will host a special film screening and tribute to Dr. Fenton, recognizing his love of film and dedication to public awareness and education about mental illness. This Science in the Cinema Special Event will include the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area premiere of the film Jumping Off Bridges. For more information about the film, see http://www.jumpingoffbridges.com/.
Before the film is shown, Richard Nakamura, Ph.D., Deputy Director, NIMH, will give a tribute to Dr. Fenton and introduce the film. The film will then be screened in its entirety. Immediately following the film, Mayada Akil, M.D. and Ellen Leibenluft, M.D., NIMH, will comment on the medical science themes depicted in the film and take questions from the audience. Tickets are free and are available on a first-come, first-served basis through the AFI Silver box office, day of show only. Seating is limited to the first 400 individuals. |
