Career Opportunities

Epidemiology Branch

The following provides information on how to apply for environmental epidemiology fellowships and available positions within the Epidemiology Branch (http://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/atniehs/labs/epi/index.cfm).

Job Openings

Applying Predoctoral or Postdoctoral Fellowships

Fellowship training is under the supervision of NIEHS senior scientists. Fellows choose two advisors—a primary research advisor and a career mentor—from among senior Branch or Division scientists. Fellows gain experience with interdisciplinary or multicenter collaborations, and by participating in career development activities. Previous trainees have gone on to positions with schools of public health and medicine, NIH, CDC, NIOSH and industry.

Postdoctoral applicants must have a doctoral degree, or near completion, in epidemiology or a related field. Alternatively, applicants may hold an M.D. and have epidemiology experience or training (e.g., MPH). Predoctoral applicants must be registered in a doctoral program in epidemiology or a related field. Highly competitive stipends are determined by degree(s) and years of relevant postdoctoral experience and annual increases are available. Medical insurance is provided and visa assistance is available for international applicants. Appointments are for up to five years.

Fellowship applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Applicants should submit the following:

  • letter describing areas of research interest
  • curriculum vitae with bibliography
  • copies of one or two recent publications
  • contact information for three individuals serving as references

Submit application materials preferably by e-mail to epifellowships@niehs.nih.gov or submit by post mail to the following:

Paula S. Juras, Ph.D.
National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences
111 TW Alexander Drive, Rall A357

For more information on fellowships, please see the NIEHS Office of Fellows' Career Development. Summer internships are also available through the NIEHS Summers of Discovery Program. Applications for Summer Internships are usually due by 1 March.

The NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community in its training and employment programs.
