The NTP invites everyone attending the Society of Toxicology 44th Annual Meeting and ToxExpo, March 6 - 10 in New Orleans, LA to come by booth #1052 for a visit.

Highlights include:
  • Immunology for Toxicologists - (continuing education) - Sunday, March 6. Dr. Dori Germolec, NTP/NIEHS is co-chair for this course to provide information on fundamental and clinical aspects of immunology and to describe the basic elements of immunotoxicity, allergy and autoimmunity.
  • Current Status and Future Considerations for the Development and Validation of In Vitro Alternative to the Draize Rabbit Eye Test - Tuesday, March 8, 8:30 - 11:30am, Room R03. Dr. William Stokes, Director of the NTP Interagency Center for the Evaluation of Alternative Toxicological Methods/NIEHS is co-chair for this workshop that will address scientific and regulatory consideations for developing and validating in vitro test methods that will refine, reduce, and replace the Driaze rabbit eye test.
  • Searching NTP Databases - Tuesday, March 8, 11am - noon, Room 215. Dr. William (Skip) Eastin, Head of NTP Information Services and Central Files/NIEHS, will present an overview of NTP databases demonstrating what's available and how to search.
  • The 2-yr Rodent Carcinogenesis Bioassay: Relevant or Relic? - Tuesday, March 8, 6pm, Room 229. This year's SOT Great Debate focuses on the 2-year rodent carcinogensis bioassay. Dr. Christopher Portier, Associate Director for the NTP/NIEHS, is among the speakers and will talk specifically about how the traditional bioassay is still an integral part of toxicological evaluations. The other speakers are Dr. Samuel Cohen, Nebraska Medical Center, and Dr. Abigail Jacobs, FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.
  • A Conversation with the Directors - Wednesday, March 9, noon - 1pm, Room R-01. Dr. Kenneth Olden from NIEHS, Dr. Christopher Portier from NTP, Dr. William Farland from EPA and Dr. Daniel Casciano from NCTR will discuss toxicology-related activities with an emphasis on changes of direction and new initiatives for the future. Dr. Kenneth Olden will introduce the new director of the NTP/NIEHS, Dr. David A. Schwartz, who joins the NIH in April.
