Macomb County Sheriff’s Department Awarded $68, 000 Federal Homeland Security Grant

(Washington, D.C.) – Rep. Sander Levin applauded the announcement that the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department will receive $68,000 from the federal Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Homeland Security Overtime Program.

The COPS Homeland Security Overtime program grant can be used to pay officer overtime during homeland security training sessions and other law enforcement activities that are designed to help prevent acts of terrorism and other violent or drug-related crimes.

"The COPS program - adding police officers focused on community-oriented law enforcement activities – has been instrumental in combating crime in our communities since it began in 1994 . These new monies will provide much needed support for critical local efforts in the area of homeland security. It is unfortunate that in the face of proven success and increased local need, that we have to fight efforts in Washington to reduce funding to the COPS program," said Rep. Sander Levin (D-Royal Oak).
