Volunteer Services Program

Specially trained Clinical Center (CC) volunteers can provide services for patients and their families including:

  • Notary Services
  • Family Friend Program (childcare)
  • Red Cross.

Notary Services

The Director of Volunteer Services and the CC Patient Representative are the principal notaries for CC patients. Patients in need of notary services should contact their unit or clinic social worker for assistance.

Family Friend Program (Childcare)

Assistance with child care is available through the Clinical Center Family Friend program, a childcare service staffed by trained volunteers. The program may be used by:

  • parents who need respite while caring for children who are pediatric patients
  • parents who are patients but who have no other means of child care, such as family members or friends.

The social worker or the protocol's research nurse can arrange for gratis childcare.

Red Cross

Red Cross volunteers provide a variety of hospitality services to make patients and their families feel welcome and more comfortable throughout their research participation.

For more information, please contact the Volunteer Services Program at (301) 496-1807, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
