Abstract: | (CIT): The intracellular protein clathrin controls membrane traffic pathways that influence cell surface expression of receptors. Thus clathrin function impacts the ability of cells to communicate with each other via signaling and uptake of soluble molecules. The lecture will analyze the evolution of the clathrin protein from a structural point of view and evolution of its function in cells. The latter will address clathrin's role in uptake of antigen receptors on B and T lymphocytes and diversification of clathrin function in muscle. The NIH Director's Wednesday Afternoon Lecture Series includes weekly scientific talks by some of the top researchers in the biomedical sciences worldwide. |
