Ken Rose, Ph.D., J.D.

Dr. Rose received his M.S. degree in Cell and Developmental Biology, and his Ph.D.(with distinction) in Neurophysiology from New York University.

He performed pre-doctoral research at both the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institutionand the Marine Biological Laboratory in Massachusetts, and post-doctoral researchat the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine.

He is the multi-award-winning author of three books (one a New York Times NotableBook), four science films, several peer-reviewed papers and chapters, and numerous newspaper, magazine, and web-based articles.

He has been a consultant to NASA on its astrobiology program, a grant proposalreviewer for the NSF, the editor-in-chief of a science policy journal, a guestof radio and television talk shows, and has been invited to speak before audiences of several major universities.

Dr. Rose received his J.D. from American University, Washington College of Lawin 1993.

He is both a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the United States PatentBar.

As a practicing attorney with two intellectual property law firms, Dr. Rose draftedand prosecuted a number of patent applications relating to the health sciencesand biotechnology.

He also provided legal counsel to the firms' many corporate clients in areasof patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret law.

Dr. Rose joined the Department of Veterans Affairs as an Associate Counsel andlater joined the National Institutes of Health in 1996 as the sole TechnologyDevelopment & Patent Specialist for the NINDS.

Dr. Rose joined the TTB as a Senior Technology Development & Patent Specialistin January 2000.
