House Appropriations Subcommittee Holds FY 2004 Budget Hearing

On April 2, 2003, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, HHS, and Education (Representative Ralph Regula [R-OH], Chairman) held a hearing as part its review of the Fiscal Year 2004 NIH budget. Dr. Elias Zerhouni, Director of NIH, provided an NIH Overview. Dr. Zerhouni was accompanied by:

  • Dr. Raynard Kington, Deputy Director of NIH
  • Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach, Director of the National Cancer Institute
  • Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute on Allergy and Infectious Diseases
  • Dr. Allen Spiegel, Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

In addition, the following Institute Directors and Senior Staff also accompanied Dr. Zehouni:

  • Dr. Patricia Grady, Director of the National Institute of Nursing Research
  • Dr. Richard Hodes, Director of the National Institute on Aging
  • Dr. Ruth Kirschstein, Senior Advisor to the Director of NIH
  • Dr. Donald Lindberg, Director of the National Library of Medicine
  • Dr. John Ruffin, Director of the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities
  • Dr. Paul Sieving, Director of the National Eye Institute
  • Dr. Stephen Straus, Director of the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine
  • Dr. Lawrence Tabak, Director of the National Institute of Dental and Cranofacial Research
  • Dr. Judith Vaitukaitis, Director of the National Center for Research Resources
  • Mr. Donald Poppke, Acting Associate Director for Budget
