Biography
Graduated from Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 1981; completed an Internal Medicine internship and residency, Hematology Oncology fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Served 24 years with the US Army. Spent the last 10 years with the US Military HIV Research program doing adoptive immunotherapy, gene therapy, and immune reconstitution in collaboration with Carl June, MD at the University of Pennsylvania. Hold faculty position as Associate Professor of Medicine at USUHS. Currently working with Dr. Phillip Dennis in the Signal Transduction Section studying the Akt pathway and lung cancer pathogenesis.
Research
Drug repositioning - Using preclinical data to develop clinical trials with drugs approved by the FDA for other indications. Drugs/agents of interest are those that have been shown to modulate the PI3/Akt/mTOR pathway. Phase I Nelfinavir in solid tumors, Pemetrexed and sirolimus in refractory lung cancer, sirolimus as a chemopreventive agent in persons at high risk for tobacco related tumors.
