  • Primary Uses or Exposures: Chloramphenicol has been used as an antibiotic since the 1950s but currently has restricted use in the United States because it causes blood dyscrasia.

  • Basis for Nomination: IARC1 classification as probably carcinogenic to humans based on finding of limited evidence of carcinogenicity in human epidemiology studies
  • Current Status: Listed in the RoC as reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen since the 10th RoC (2002)
