GRANT WRITING WORKSHOP
July 1, 2008
12:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

The afternoon of July 1, 2008, will be devoted to a "Grant Writing Workshop" targeted to junior investigators or investigators new to the field who are interested in submitting research proposals related to healthcare-based research to reduce disparities. The faculty will include experts from the NIH on the grants writing process and individuals with successful grant writing and grants review expertise. The workshop will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required for those interested in attending the Grant Writing Workshop as space is limited.

There will be an overview session first, and then the group will break into 4-6 subgroups of 10-15 people in each for the abstract/mentoring review portion of the afternoon. Participants will be placed into specific breakout sessions according to their research focus. This will be an excellent opportunity for junior investigators to interact with experts in the field and get feedback and recommendations for superior grant submission.

To Apply for the Grant Writing Workshop: (All documents for submission are due by May 30, 2008.)

  1. Investigators must prepare and submit a 1-page proposal outlining their healthcare-based disparities research aims, hypotheses, and methods that include the: 1) statement of the study question(s), 2) study objectives, 3) a brief description of study design methods, and 4) projected outcomes of the study and the usefulness and relevance of the results.
  2. Investigators must prepare and submit 1-3 specific research or grant writing questions. The faculty will review these summaries, proposals, and the research questions prior to the Workshop to allow for a more tailored learning experience.
Please send these two documents electronically by the due date, May 30, 2008, to Ms. Amy Amerson at aamerson@scgcorp.com. Notification of acceptance or rejection to participate in the Workshop will be sent to all submitters as least 2 weeks prior to the Workshop.
