The objective of the Obstacles and Opportunities on the Road to an Artificial Pancreas: Closing the Loop Workshop is to evaluate the current state of development of the artificial pancreas and determine what steps need to be taken to achieve a functional and safe closed-loop system. Clinical investigators will discuss the optimal targets for normal glycemia and their experience with the closed-loop system. Basic scientists will address the technological difficulties. Participation from industry and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) representatives will provide a broad view of the current difficulties associated with reaching the goal of an artificial pancreas.
