Slidell Disaster Recovery Center Closes Temporarily

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Slidell Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) located at 100 Harbor Center Blvd. in Slidell, will close temporarily on Saturday because of a prescheduled event at the North Shore Harbor Convention Center. The DRC will reopen on Monday, June 12 at 9 a.m. resuming regular hours.

All seven DRCs in the state are in operation from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and are closed on Sundays.

Applicants may access information by calling the Helpline at 1-800-621-3362. Hearing-or speech- impaired individuals may call 1-800-462-7585. Both numbers are available from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.

Representatives of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), state, as well as customer service representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration, are on hand to answer questions and provide recovery information. No cash, checks, debit cards or vouchers are distributed at Disaster Recovery Centers. These centers are for the dissemination of information to assist in victim recovery. Written materials about various state and federal programs are also available to individuals and business owners.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
